"Heal Self has a longer casting time and a cooldown of a few minutes, displayed on the spell's icon by a semi-transparent grey layer which disappears gradually."

Why the hell have they added that EQ/WoW crap.... I sure hope they realize mana limitation like in UO is a hell of alot better way to balance spells...

Having cooldowns like that will make it impossible to have long going fight like in UO, where a duel 1v1 or 2v2 could last for an hour if the fighters were equal good.

I sure hope its just that spell, othervice i will cry a river.......

Well I'm quite sure only a select few spells will have cooldowns. Most of the spells will probably be balanced by high and low mana cost. It doesn't neccesarily have to be a bad thing with a few cooldown spells just as long as they aren't too powerful. I don't want to see any super powerful 30 minute cooldown abilites like shieldwall in WoW.

Knowing that there are around 500 spells I'm quite sure there will be other means to heal yourself as well other than the self heal spell in the lesser magic school. Perhaps there is the same spell in the greater magic school without the cooldown.

Well on the other hand CD's allows for more depth in the combat system.. forcing players to plan ahead and to choose skills with a little care.

as long as there won't be uber spells and no global cooldown, I'm fine with it. Self-heal SHOULD have a cooldown. But when it comes to Ultra-hyper-uber-fireball with 1hour cooldown, count me out.

To make pvp advanced and not dumbed down there should be NO cooldown on heals. wow is a great example of a useless pvp system where the cooldowns makes thing so dumbed down and slow...

Its also a lazy way to balance things.

Anyone who played UO will know this :)

Nah, can't really blame the dumbness of WoW's PvP on it's CD's.. it was the game as a whole x)

Also, the combat system as a whole is entirely different. But we'll just have wait, see and hope there won't be too many cooldowns I guess :)

Altho I have to say that spell does sound stupid to begin with.. obviously it wouldn't work without a CD(or well it would, but it would be retarded), since everyone have it from start, it does not require any reagents and it would therefore be kind of an immortality button if you just stash up on enough mana pots..(like morrowind where if you just had enough pots you could just jump around healing yourself in all eternity.. that is retarded)

Hopefully they will take it away x)

I don't see a reason for a cooldown on a heal, you'll run out of mana eventually and I'm 100% sure that potions will have cooldowns. Also if people hit you with 5 fireballs at the same time you can have 10 healers and you'll still be dead (unless your healers are good) because the damage will do your full health in 1 second or less if the spells are synced.

Then I'm also sure that you can interrupt peoples spells before they've finished casting.

Yes, my reasoning was purely from a dueling point of view :) And yeah, I haven't read anything about it but I hope interrupting is in.

Haven't really read anything about potions and if they have cooldowns either..

Well I think you have to stop moving to cast a spell and the time required for the spells will depend on their power, if they are healing or damaging spells, how powerful they are and how heavy the armor is that you wear. Generally what you do (in UO at least) is that you interupt higher level spells with lower level ones.

If someone starts casting a greater heal in UO which is a level 4 spell I either interupt it with a level 1-2 offensive spell or I block the heal by poisoning him making him unable to heal. In UO if you poison someone they first have to get rid of the poison before they can heal themselves. There are plenty of ways to balance out combat and spellcasting and while cooldowns might be one of them it certainly shouldn't be the only way used, I think it can add more depth if they have cooldowns mixed in with spells balanced in other ways.

Don't forget that people have to aim as well. Healing and running will therefore be pretty easy so I can see why they put that cooldown in. It does make me kinda feel uncomfortable since there might be more, but if there aren't, that's fine with me.

Hmm as far as I've seen you have to stand still to cast spells, then when the spell is charged you can walk around with it loaded and shoot when you want to. Perhaps I didn't explain what I meant properly in my previous post though :).
