I am in US and you guys are playing on a European server. I really think I fit in here but with the new announcment of an announcement ;) I wanted to make sure that my internet ping is good enough for me to even think about playing on a european server.

Anyone know any sites I could find this info out?

I've heard in IRC that the servers will be in Germany, and most people are testing their pings on the Frankfurt server.

try ping:

dfi.defianceuo.com

Its a UO freeshard located in europe with a nice connection.
Use this program, its UO's own ping test prog, ftp://ftp.ea.com/pub/origin/patches/uo/uotrace.exe

Remember to go Options -> Advanced to get more options.

with my roomate sitting right next to me playing warhammer online, and my warhammer online also running in the background, I got a ping of 114. With just my roomie running warhammer online and me runing nothing the background, i got a 114ish ping as well.

What do you guys think? Will I be able to be competitive with a ping over 100?

Thats not bad at all from US. I think you wont see much difference playing here then in US ingame. Thats how i see on it at least.

A few factors you need to consider are really the type of game and difference a high to low ping will make.


Because this is still an MMO, you will get away with 150 ping or less I'd say.
Thats because of the FPS style to casting.

An FPS shooter like CSS you will need much lower pings because its highly reaction based.. so depending on how much the casting and pvp is based around quick actions and reflex, ping will be a factor.

But for the most part, you can get away with high pings in MMO.

I live in Frankfurt , Germany woooot , I just tested my ping to the Frankfurt triangle and got 56 ms too bad I live 20 miles out side the city centre in some farmland where I cant get a decent connection :(

Speedtest is highly inaccurate.

I sometimes get 200ms to Stockholm while I get like 5 in ping while playing CS on a Stockholm server

My ping with Athens is 223.... What do you think about it?
I just have a bad feeling that i`ll only be able to play as a crafter only....

tryed to use UOtrace and ping defiance?

its Alot more accurate.
Think the avrage american got 100-150 ping to it.

I used UO trace to test my connection and I consistently got no higher than 115 ping. I dont think it will be too bad but not really sure how it is going to affect ranged.

I was also having the ieda of going nuts crafting as I assume everyone is going to be out pkin like crazy, then slowly switch over to my stealthy mage type dude.

We will see... seems I have an additional month to figure it out.

Are we still going to get a chance to play it before we buy?
